陈美如（南红）与陈美玲（陈宝珠）两姊妹幼年时饱受贪官土豪欺凌，长大後化身黑玫瑰，凭一身武艺，劫富济贫。保险公司调查员张敏夫（谢贤）对美如身份起疑，调查过程中二人多番斗智，敏夫皆成败将。影片结合了不同的电影类型，人物塑造出色，斗智的过程亦引人入胜，在经营奇情曲折的娱乐性之外，更探讨个人力量如何改变环境的议题，其中寄托的社会关怀，却又与粤语片的传统遥相呼应。

电影剧情：
抗战时期，广州告急，国民政府官僚唐耀南与继室夜夜笙歌；前妻一对子女清平，清辉则爱国心重，活跃于抗日工作队；清平更与耀南养女阿兰相恋。耀南与日军勾结，奉命缉拿工作队成员，清平因助同志张铁脱险而被禁锢家中。阿兰为盗钥匙，惨被耀南奸污。当她放出清平后，两人忍痛而别。未几，广州沦陷，唐家疏散至曲江。时清平在乐昌工作，清辉亦离家往儿童教养院任职。阿兰被唐太太发现有孕，耀南遂命陈秘书将阿兰推下河中灭口，幸为艇家所救，乃往投靠清辉。其时清平被捕，清辉营救不果，阿兰在诞下一子后辗转混入狱中探视。前线又告紧张，已升官的耀南下令将清平押赴重庆。清平拒写悔过书，再被监禁，受尽折磨。胜利后，清平获释，到儿教院与阿兰母子及清辉团聚，方知耀南恶行。时耀南已返广州任接收大员，清平怒往责问，耀南拔枪欲射杀清平，阿兰伺机将他击毙，却于混乱间中枪身亡。清平满怀哀痛，阿兰之子...

Rose in Tears
The creative person torn between ideals and reality is one of Chor Yuen's favourite characters in his 1960s films. Another favourite subject is the rose, not only featured in the title of several films but is also the name of the production company he formed with his future wife, Nam Hung, who also stars in most of its productions. Rose in Tears is in fact the company's inaugural project. The story features two painters, one famous and the other struggling but both infatuated with the same delicate rose of a woman, negotiating their ways through art, commerce and love. With this heart-tugging story, Chor finds a vehicle for his baroque impulses, relishing in lavish images and over-the-top emotions.
Murder Case in Chinatown
Chan Sipui sought refuge with relatives who owned a restaurant in New York. He later entered a relationship with his colleague, A-Heung. Sipui met Wong Yukfan, the laundry shop owner, and was captivated by her business. He devised a plan to marry Yukfan to obtain control of the laundry shop. Furthermore, Sipui aimed to deceive A-Hueng and take her money. He set up a scheme to kill Yukfan and dismember her body. However, Yukfan's daughter discovered the bloodstains and reported the incident to the police, leading to Sipui's arrest and subsequent trial.. Based on a real murder case in 1930s New York Chinatown.

陈志康（张活 游）是一名教师，和妻子李玉薇（白燕 饰）生了5个孩子。因为对校长的某些做派不满，陈志康和校长之间发生了争执，最终，陈志康丢掉了工作。在这个节骨眼上，李玉薇病倒了，这个本就贫穷的家庭一下子失去了全部的经济来源。无奈之下，5个孩子只得上街乞讨。
陈志康一直都在撰写一部名为《可怜天下父母心》的小说，然而却迟迟都无法出版，又急又愁的他患上了肺病，不久之后，家里的小女儿也因病去世了，高利贷每天都在门口要债，绝望之中，陈志康决定携全家自杀，离开这个可怕的世界。
